Everyday brings growth on the farm. We watch our gardens and orchards get fuller and greener, and then we are surprised to find a colorful delicious fruit or vegetable that wasn't there a few days earlier. Even raising farm animals from babies and watching them grow is incredibly satisfying. However, the most remarkable growth happens when we learn from our mistakes, make positive health choices, embrace living in the moment, and start welcoming challenge as part of life.
In June, we were surprised to find one of our hens hatched six chicks without us even knowing. They've grown up so fast, and like most kids, they are now demanding more space and freedom! We've moved them to a stable in our barn, along with mother hen, for several more weeks. When they are ready, they can finally co-mingle with the adults in the orchard.

As you know, from reading the orchard update in the newsletter, we moved our entire chicken coup to the back of the farm. However, our most famous hen, Toyota, insists on making her way back down to the front of the farm. Her name was given to her by one of our volunteers, Terre, due to then hens fascination with cars. Maybe she just travels up front, because she knows she'll get a ride back at the end of the day.

One of the highlights this month was the King snake Teree found in our garden when we were moving a tarp. Thankfully, we all knew it wasn't venomous, and got to hold the snake and feel its smooth skin. Christie, a new volunteer held a snake for the first time. Snakes eat rodents, insects, bugs and leeches, and most snakes are good for gardens!

We are also thrilled to introduce our most recent volunteers this month. Christie, Chrystal, Gerald, and Ana have been a great addition to our ECO Team! We are so grateful to have volunteers that are committed to our farm mission!
Please contact us at the ECO Farm anytime if you're interested in coming by for a tour.
